Could you sponsor SYM Team members – Baddow Races 19 May?

SYM rely on the prayers, financial giving and practical support of the Christian Community in our City, to enable them to be a committed and significant presence in the lives of young people across Chelmsford.

CTiC have just become aware of this great opportunity to support them. SYM Team member, Abigail Sheldrake writes:

Sponsorship opportunity

Abigail Sheldrake and Karen Tullet are going to be running the 10 mile route at the ‘Baddow Races’ on Sunday 19th May 2019. All sponsorship raised will go directly to support the work of SYM.

Our two main financial needs at present are; covering extra staffing hours to provide mentoring in Sandon School and secondly, for some computer tablets to use in our lunchtime groups.

We would love to use interactive resources such as games, videos and pictures via tablets in these Christian-faith based sessions.

If you would like to sponsor us it is really easy you just click here: www.give.net/symchelmsford

[Note that the give.net page refers to CADEF, which is the underpinning Charity  of SYM)].

Thank you!

Can we reach a City for Christ?

Could The Church in Chelmsford reach the whole of our city for Christ? A radical question and one that CTiC are presently exploring.

Evangelist Dr Ed Silvoso from Argentina offers an answer from his personal experience. Here’s are the opening paragraphs of Ed’s story from his website: www.edsilvoso.com

PRINCIPLE: CITIES ARE CENTRAL TO GOD’S REDEMPTIVE STRATEGY. THE GREAT COMMISSION BEGINS WITH A CITY‚ JERUSALEM‚ AND CULMINATES WHEN ANOTHER CITY‚ THE NEW JERUSALEM‚ BECOMES GOD’S ETERNAL DWELLING WITH HIS PEOPLE. IN ORDER TO FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION, WE MUST REACH EVERY CITY ON EARTH WITH THE GOSPEL.HELLO

IS IT POSSIBLE TO REACH AN ENTIRE CITY FOR CHRIST? This was one of the first and most persistent questions I asked myself as a new believer. Acknowledging that God wishes that none should perish and that Christ gave Himself in ransom for all (see 1 Tim. 2:4,5; 2 Pet. 3:9), I constantly wondered what it would take for the Church in a given city to take the good news to everyone there.

I received the Lord when I was 13 and living in my native Argentina. The best decision I made as a new Christian was to have a weekly appointment with God. Every Thursday, at 7:00 P.M. sharp, I rode my bicycle to the western shore of the Parana River in my hometown of San Nicolas. During that precious hour, I poured out my heart to God, trying to understand the loneliness I felt as a born-again Christian high schooler in a spiritually skeptical town of almost 100,000 souls. If Jesus was indeed the only way, why was it that no one else wanted to find Him?…

Prayer Vigil re Sri Lanka – this Sunday evening 28th April

This Sunday St. John’s, Moulsham Street, are holding a vigil regards the Sri Lanka bombings on Easter Sunday – do come and join them.

On Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka 253 people lost their lives and more than 500 people were wounded in a coordinated attack on 3 churches and 3 hotels followed by two further blasts as police searched for those responsible. The attack was timed for maximum impact when the churches would be full with those celebrating the Resurrection, and holiday makers at breakfast,

This coming Sunday, one week on, we will be holding a prayer vigil for those who lost their lives or were wounded in the attack and for those who have lost loved ones. Join us to pray in church from 6.00pm until 7.30pm, when we will finish by tolling the church bell.

Love the Genius of our Unique City

At the end of our Good Friday – Great News event last week, (read all about it click here) – CTiC Chair, David Gilbey spoke of a destiny for our City, that he believed God has prepared, as a centre of communication of the Good News of Jesus. He  spoke of our heritage as The Birthplace of Radio, through Marconi.

The very next week this insightful and prophetic article, written by The Bishop of Chelmsford, Stephen Cotterell has just appeared in the Chelmsford & Mid Essex Times newspaper.

To he who has ears…!

Thank God for Seniors!

A couple of days ago, we shared that local Roxwell man, Rev Hugh Dibbens, at 80 years old, is embarking on an 800 mile ‘prayer cycle’ – (click here to read more).

Well, Hugh is also  passionate about informing other seniors  – those 55 years and over  – that they have plenty of God given talent and ability and time left to be used by God!

Hugh says:

‘The urgent message is that seniors are God’s special gift for pioneer mission and evangelism for our time, especially with youth and children.  The problem is that the seniors themselves have to be persuaded!’
